The AU First in Family to Attend University Award is one of the awards in the AU Student Stand Out Awards Portfolio and the premise is to recognize that all AU students Stand Out! The AU Student Stand Out Awards are a portfolio of awards aimed at recognizing the students’ drive to reach desired educational goals, despite the challenges along the way.
These awards are for current Athabasca University students who are the first in their family (grandparents, parents, nor siblings have earned a post secondary credential, i.e. university, college or technical diploma, certificate or degree) to attend university. Students enrolled in an undergraduate degree program with a minimum of 15 AU program credits (not completed by challenge credit) and a minimum cumulative AU GPA of 3.2 are invited to apply.

This scholarship will be awarded annually to a current AU undergraduate student who has successfully completed the Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) process.
Students must be enrolled in an AU degree program, have a cumulative AU GPA of 3.60 or higher at an undergraduate level, be within 30 credits of completing their undergraduate degree program and have not received this award previously.
Applicants will be asked to write a short essay (1000 words) explaining the contribution of the PLAR process to their success as learners.
